it's souper

i can't believe we have lived in the wonderful city of atlanta for over a year.  part of me feels like we just moved in, and the other part of me can't remember what life was like before we lived here.  moving to the big city definitely was an adjustment.  there were moments - days rather - that husband and i would look at each other and want to run back to sweet, small town auburn.  we called each other "country mice" trying to survive in the big city.  not only did we have to say good bye to friends, seeing family often, grad school, the college town atmosphere, our church, our small group, and the ease of a small town, we also had to say good bye to a season of our marriage that we probably won't have until retirement.  meanwhile, we had to adjust to new jobs, new condo life, city parking, prices, traffic, and how to drive on peachtree.  looking back, i'm thankful we were able to handle last summer as well as we did! i know that through that transition the Lord was looking after us and gave us so much grace to handle everything.  living in atlanta has provided both of us so many wonderful opportunities and experiences.  through every season i find myself falling more in love with this city.  there are so many unique neighborhoods, restaurants, and areas that keep our weekends fun, and make working so hard worth it.  living close to my sister and having so many of my best friends from college minutes away makes this time in my life so rich and full.  i am spoiled beyond belief by their friendships and getting to  share so many meals with them - our favorite spot is souper jenny's, pictured above.  as our second year in atlanta begins, i am excited to see what the Lord has in store for us, and i am so thankful to be able to call atlanta home.  it really is souper.

last bit of our trip to dc

well, i'm finally finished editing our dc pictures! we went a few weeks ago for our 3 year anniversary and had such a great time.  we had both been to the city before, so there was no pressure to do all of the touristy attractions, and we could really just choose what we wanted to see.  the majority of these pictures are from one evening when we walked around the memorials after dinner.  it was so fun to see them at night all lit up.  also pictured below is when we met up with some of my friends from high school that live in d.c. and they took us around georgetown.  after they took us to a great little brunch spot, we went down to the river and walked around M Street and went shopping.  the last picture of us with the capitol in the background is on the balcony of the newseum.  the newseum was definitely my favorite museum of all.  we could have spent an entire day in there, which says a lot, because i usually get bored after about an hour.  my favorite exhibit that they had was the Pulitzer Prize photography exhibit.  they had all of the winners framed, dating back to the 1940s.  it was so fun to see history through one photograph a year and see how photography has evolved over time.  if you go to d.c., it is a must see!

d.c., we definitely loved you. thank you for being a beautiful and diverse city!

six years ago

she was eighteen.
he had just turned twenty.
they caught each other's eye
while cleaning toilets
{oh how romantic}
and taking care of kids at camp.

the night before she left camp
to go back home,
he asked her to be his girlfriend.
and so began their three year journey
of long distance dating.
filled with
phone calls
texts
emails
letters
cards
plane tickets
plane tickets
and more
plane tickets.

they knew that ::
"God is bigger than the distance between Texas and Georgia. If we are meant to be dating, God will make everything work out."

"if you have any encouragement from being united with Christ, if any comfort from his love, if any fellowship with the Spirit, if any tenderness and compassion, then make my joy complete by being like-minded, having the same love, being one in spirit and purpose" - philippians 2:1-2
