capitol hill morning

we spent our last morning in dc exploring capitol hill.  that neighborhood is such a charming little spot, that reminds me of my summer in london.  the old townhouses remind me of the flats with all the character and little gardens.  the flowers were all in bloom and the ivy made is so magical.  i also love all of community parks and seeing the kids playing at recess.  i kept waiting to hear their little british accents as they played in the gardens and walked two by two back to their school - it was very surreal.  summer 2007, you were so good to me!  at least it's good to know that there are still  some touches of european style left in big ole america.

trip to georgetown

 

georgetown is just that perfect little spot that makes you fall in love with d.c.

it's the kind of place that outshines atlanta - which if you know how much i love the atl, 

then you know that is saying something.  m street is a doll, filled with outdoor shopping, fun restaurants, and lots of yummy treats.  last summer we stopped by baked and wired, which was a really cool coffee shop, but not the best cupcakes.  so this time around, i was really excited to try out georgetown cupcakes.  and they were amazing! the icing was so good, which i believe really is key to a good cupcake :)  after we had perused every store that we could think of, we relaxed by the river and enjoyed the fabulous weather.  for dinner we met up with some of my sister's camp friends at farmers fishes bakers which was really delicious and a perfect setting for catching up with old friends.  thanks for a wonderful day, georgetown!

a gelato and monument night

gelato and the monuments at night. a perfect start to our sister trip :) i highly recommend the chocolate chip and sicilian almond, combo.  we took in the sights of the washington monument, lincoln memorial, vietnam war memorial, and korean war memorial.  also, we dined at oyamel. holla atcha tableside guac!

sister's graduation trip to dc

earlier this week the sister and i took a little trip to washington, d.c. we celebrated her recent graduation from the university of georgia and enjoyed some time together before her big girl job begins.  you may remember that the husband and i took a trip to our nation's capital last summer. also here, here, and here. it was great to be back there and share some of our favorite discoveries with my sister. we stayed at the fabulous kipton hotel, hotel monaco.  i highly recommend it. besides being gorgeous, the location is ideal.  right where you want to be.

dc trip :: eastern market

we spent our first morning in d.c. at eastern market.  eastern market is tucked away in the beautiful capitol hill area and really comes to life on the weekends.  they had everything you could imagine:: fresh flowers, fresh fruits and veggies, arts and crafts, every kind of meat you could think of, and of course the famous blue buck pancakes.  we waited in line forever at market lunch, just to taste those very popular pancakes. they were definitely worth the wait! i wish i could shop there every week.
